An association of voluntary people under the banner "THE BASAVANAGUDI AQUATIC CLUB" was formed in December 1986 for promoting Aquatic sports. The Association is registered as a society under Karnatak State Societies Act 1960 . The name of the Association was subsequently changed to "BASAVANAGUDI AQUATIC CENTRE' implying "The CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE"

Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre was formed under the able leadership of Sri Neelakanta Rao R Jagdale, who is the President of the Centre since its inception. Sri Jagdale has taken keen interest in the activities of the Centre.He, in the midst of his busy schedule as an Industrialist has found time to acquire considerable knowledge in the science of swimming training. He has attended many clinics on coaching and acquired Certifications from American Swimming Coaches Association(ASCA)
